Why a Felt Food Toss Game Is a Party MVP

Let’s start with why this game works so well:

✔️ Works for toddlers and big kids
✔️ No reading required
✔️ Easy to explain (aka no chaos)
✔️ Soft felt = safe throwing
✔️ Reusable for years

And best of all? It’s quiet enough for indoors, durable enough for enthusiastic kids, and cute enough to double as decor.

Materials You’ll Need (AKA: Your Craft Buffet)

Here’s everything I used — feel free to swap, adjust, or improvise like the creative genius you are:

  • Felt sheets in multiple colors (I grabbed mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks
  • Beans or rice for stuffing (I used dried pinto beans because they were already in my pantry)
  • Scissors
  • A large, sturdy box (a thick printer box is PERFECT)
  • Acrylic paints
  • Spray paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Box cutter
  • Sharpie
food toss game materials

Tip: If you want to make all of the quantities that the book mentions, grab extra felt sheets. I only made one of each item.

Tip #2: The thicker the box, the longer this game will survive toddler enthusiasm.

Step 1: Building the Hungry Caterpillar “Feeding Station”

Think of this box as the “hungry” part of the Hungry Caterpillar — it’s the star of the show.

Choose a Large, Sturdy Box

This box needed to be sturdy, tall, and ready for action. Kids throw things with enthusiasm.
Toddlers throw things with chaotic enthusiasm.
So pick a box that can take a hit.

  • I taped the box flaps together so it stood as tall as possible.

  • I left the top open so kids (and adults) could easily retrieve the food.

  • Using a Sharpie, I sketched a giant Hungry Caterpillar head with a very dramatic open mouth.

  • I carefully cut the mouth out with a box cutter.

Once the mouth was cut:

  • I spray-painted the entire box white to give myself a clean slate.

  • Then I painted the caterpillar face using acrylic paints.

Lazy genius moment:
I used a cheaper spray paint, so my Sharpie lines showed through just enough that I didn’t have to redraw anything.

To finish it off, I wrote “FEED ME” in the two empty spaces at the top. Because obviously… the caterpillar is always hungry.

Step 2: Make the Felt Foods (The Fun Part!)

This menu was a whole mood — adorable, punny, and toddler‑friendly. Everything was portioned individually to keep things clean, easy, and allergy‑friendly. This is where your creativity gets to shine. I made all the foods from the book:
✅ Apple
✅ Orange
✅ Slice of cheese
✅ Muffin
✅ Watermelon
✅ Lollipop
✅ Strawberry
✅ Salami
✅ Pickle
✅ Plum
✅ Pear
✅ Ice cream cone

Trace & Cut

Fold your felt in half.

Draw your food shape with a Sharpie.

Cut both layers at once so you get two identical pieces.

Tip: Hold the felt firmly so it doesn’t shift — unless you want a Picasso‑style pear

Add Details

Cut out leaves, stems, toppings, and accents from other felt colors.

Glue & Stuff

Use your hot glue gun to glue around the edges, leaving a small opening.

Stuff with beans or rice until it’s firm but not bursting.

Then glue the opening closed.

Warning: Do not overstuff. If it’s too full, it won’t close—and you’ll say words the kids don’t need to hear.

Overstuffing = felt foods that refuse to close
Understuffing = floppy sadness
Aim for “plush but tossable.”

Hungry Caterpillar Pin

The Cheese (AKA: The Boss Level)

Cheese was the diva of the group.

Here’s how I tackled it:

  1. Glued two sides
  2. Cut out the cheese holes
  3. Glued the holes closed
  4. Stuffed beans into the corners
  5. Glued the third side
  6. Stuffed again
  7. Glued the final side

It wasn’t fully filled like all of the other foods— but it was enough weight to throw beautifully.

Step 3: Play the Game!

Set the box out, hand the kids their felt foods, and watch the magic happen.
They LOVED it.
They fed the caterpillar over and over.
Then, they made up their own rules.
My kids definitely played long after the party ended.
This game is durable, adorable, and 100% kid‑approved!

Free Bear Scavenger Hunt Printable for a Beary 1st Birthday Party

(The easiest party activity you’ll ever set up—promise)

If you’ve ever hosted a toddler party and thought,
“Okay but… what do I do with all these tiny humans once they arrive?”
Friend. I’ve been there.

This Free Bear Scavenger Hunt Printable was created for that exact moment—when you need something:

  • Fun but not chaotic

  • Easy but not boring

  • Budget-friendly but still cute

  • And toddler-approved (the toughest critics of all)

I originally used this scavenger hunt for a Beary 1st Birthday Party, and let me tell you—it was a bear-y big hit. Now I’m sharing it with you for free, because moms helping moms is kind of my thing.

What Is the Bear Scavenger Hunt

Think of this as hide-and-seek meets party magic.

The printable includes adorable bear heads that you hide around your space. Kids search, spot, and celebrate each bear they find—no reading, no rules, no explaining required.

It’s perfect for:

  • Toddlers & preschoolers

  • First birthday parties

  • Classrooms & daycare celebrations

  • Indoor or outdoor play

  • Calm party transitions (hello, sanity saver)

And yes—there are both pink and blue versions available to download!

Your Beary Simple Supply List

You only need a handful of supplies — most of which you probably already have in your craft drawer or teacher stash:

Tip:
Cardstock is your best friend here. It keeps the bear heads sturdy enough for tiny hands, outdoor breezes, and enthusiastic toddlers who treat everything like a toy.

That’s it. No glitter. No laminator. And no tears.

This activity is so easy to set up that you’ll feel like you’re cheating at party planning. (Spoiler: you’re not. You’re just brilliant.)

Step 1: Download & Print

Print on cardstock (this makes them sturdier for little hands)

There are 2 sizes of each colors: 2.5″ & 3.5″ circles! Both sizes are included with the download.

Step 2: Cut Out the Circles

Turn on your favorite show, grab a snack, and cut out the bear circles. It’s oddly therapeutic.

Fun Ways to Hide the Bears (Get Creative!)

Here’s where the fun begins — you can hide these little bears in SO many creative ways.

Option 1: Popsicle Stick Bears (Perfect for Outdoors!)

Glue each bear head onto a popsicle stick or wooden skewer.

Stick them in the ground around your yard like tiny bear garden gnomes.

This is PERFECT for toddlers 3 and under because they can easily spot them without bending or climbing.

Option 2: Double‑Sided Tape

Stick the bears on:

  • Walls
  • Furniture
  • Balloons
  • Doors
  • Play structures
  • The side of a cooler
  • The back of your spouse (kidding… unless?)

This is great for indoor parties or classrooms.

bear pin

Option 3: Yarn Loop Hangers

Punch a hole at the top, add a loop of yarn, and hang them like ornaments.
Kids LOVE discovering bears dangling from unexpected places.

Option 4: Mix & Match

Use all three methods for a more dynamic scavenger hunt.
High, low, hanging, hidden — make it an adventure!

Tips for a Beary Successful Hunt

  • Hide some easy, hide some tricky. Toddlers need wins, but older kids love a challenge.
  • Count your bears before hiding. Trust me — you don’t want to find a rogue bear behind your couch three months later.
  • Give each child a small bag or basket. Instant excitement.
  • Play multiple rounds. Kids will ask. And ask. And ask.
  • Let kids “help” hide the bears for round two. It doubles the playtime without extra effort.
  • Use them again later. These bears make adorable décor, learning tools, or quiet‑time activities.

Perfect for a Beary 1st Birthday Party!

This scavenger hunt pairs beautifully with a Beary 1st Birthday theme.

I have a matching “Going on a Bear Hunt” printable party sign in my shop that ties the whole setup together.

(Also available in both pink and blue!)

Going on a bear hunt scavenger hunt game

Why This Works So Well for Toddlers

  • No reading required
  • Immediate excitement
  • No waiting turns
  • No complicated instructions

It builds:

  • Observation skills
  • Movement & coordination
  • Confidence (“I FOUND ONE!” 🥹)

And it keeps little hands busy while adults chat, set up food, or just breathe for a second.

I'd love to hear from you!

Soft, Sweet, & Totally Snuggly Party Decor

For this party, I wanted everything to feel soft — visually and emotionally. Think teddy‑bear‑meets‑baby‑blanket vibes.

The Backdrop

I chose a light blue fabric backdrop because it instantly softened the entire room. Fabric backdrops have this magical ability to make everything feel warm and dreamy — no harsh reflections, no plastic shine, just pure softness.

If you’re looking to recreate this balloon garland: THIS is the kit that I got, but I bought 2 of them to make the garland the size I wanted it. I even had balloons left over to use elsewhere in the party!

To keep the cozy theme going, I layered:

The combination of textures made everything feel warm and inviting.

Tip: Fabric textures photograph beautifully and instantly elevate your setup — even if everything else is simple.

The Centerpiece

A stuffed teddy bear sat proudly at the center of the table, sitting on a balloon tabletop stand, looking like it was floating away on a cloud.

It’s whimsical.
It’s adorable.
And it’s the kind of detail that makes guests lean in for a closer look.

Magical Decor and Printables Galore

The excitement started with matching printable invitations I designed just for the occasion. They featured pastel hues, enchanting unicorns, and plenty of rainbows. These invites set the tone for a dreamy night ahead and had everyone marking their calendars!

Unicorn party printables

To transform the party space into a unicorn wonderland, I created:

  • A Welcome sign to invite our guests to the evening’s activities.
  • A pastel unicorn birthday banner that added a festive vibe.
  • A rainbow balloon/fringe backdrop to highlight the kid’s table.
  • Water bottle labels to keep hydration whimsical.
  • Cupcake toppers that made the cupcakes look almost too cute to eat!
  • Treat bag toppers for extra flair.
  • Unicorn horn party hats, because, why go for a regular party hat at a time like this?!
  • Thank you tags for favors, tying everything together with a personalized touch.

Every printable matched the pastel unicorn theme, making the entire setup cohesive and oh-so-magical.

You can get all of these printables for FREE in my Free Printable Library!!!

Delectable Unicorn-Themed Treats

No party is complete without delicious treats, and this one did not disappoint:

Unicorn party treats
  • Unicorn candies in every color of the rainbow. (Including these awesome unicorn candy bracelets that fit the theme perfectly!)
  • Chocolate-dipped wafers with sprinkles for a pop of sweetness.
  • A stunning unicorn birthday cake that was almost too pretty to cut.
  • Cupcakes adorned with fun sprinkles and cupcake toppers.

The kids were thrilled with these sugary delights, and the adults couldn’t resist snapping a few photos for the memories.

Fun-Filled Activities for the Night

The highlight of the unicorn sleepover was the activities! Here’s what we did:

Unicorn Head Ring Toss A unicorn-shaped headpiece served as the target for this ring toss game. It was the perfect blend of laughter and friendly competition.

Bead Bracelet Making The kids channeled their inner designers to create pastel bead bracelets fit for a unicorn princess (or prince :-P). This activity doubled as a take-home keepsake!

Unicorn BINGO A colorful, fun twist on a classic game! Each kid had their own themed card, and the giggles were endless as they raced to yell “Unicorn!” We used leftover beads from the bracelet making as the markers for the bingo game.

Hide-and-Seek-in-the-Dark with Flashlights Armed with their party favor flashlights, the kids embarked on an epic game of hide-and-seek in the dark. The squeals of delight echoed through the house, and the flashlights added an adventurous twist. Even the little ones had a blast trying to hide in the dark!

Magical Party Favors

When it was time to bid farewell, each guest left with:

  • A bag of “Unicorn Poop” marshmallows (a party favorite!).
  • Their very own flashlight with a cute thank you tag attached, a nod to our flashlight hide-and-seek game. (The flashlights I use are no longer available, but these cute keychain flashlights would be perfect for kids party favors!)
  • The beaded bracelets they made.

These thoughtful favors ensured the unicorn magic lasted long after the party ended.

A Night to Remember

This unicorn sleepover was everything we dreamed it would be: magical, memorable, and full of fun. Whether it’s the enchanting decor, the sweet treats, or the engaging activities, a unicorn sleepover is sure to leave everyone smiling.

Ready to plan your own? With a little creativity and a lot of rainbows, you’re bound to create an unforgettable experience for your little unicorn lover.

Both options work, but my favorite choice is to use waterproof sticker paper, so I don’t have to worry about ink running!

Why Choose Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe?

Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe isn’t just cute; it’s a game! It gives kids something interactive to do instead of just collecting cards and candy. Plus, the panda design adds an extra level of charm, making this Valentine stand out from the crowd. Parents and teachers will love that it’s not only fun but also super easy to put together.

What You’ll Need:

  • Free printable Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe cards (download below!)

  • Cardstock paper

  • Scissors

  • Cellophane bags

  • 10 Valentine-themed candies per bag (think conversation hearts, red and pink M&Ms, or heart-shaped gummies)

  • Stickers or tape to seal the bags

    How to Assemble:

    1. Download and Print: Grab our free Valentine Tic-Tac-Toe printable and print it onto cardstock. The sturdy paper ensures your cards look polished and hold up during gameplay.
    2. Cut It Out: Use scissors to cut along the dotted lines. Each sheet makes multiple cards, so you’ll have plenty to share!
    3. Bag It Up: Place one tic-tac-toe card and 10 candies into each cellophane bag. The candies double as game pieces, so choose two different colors or types for easy play.
    4. Seal the Deal: Fold over the top of the bag and secure it with a cute Valentine’s Day sticker or tape. Bonus points if the sticker matches the panda theme!
    5. Share the Love: Hand them out to classmates, friends, or neighbors and watch the smiles roll in.

    Tips for Extra Flair:

    • Use decorative-edge scissors to give the cards a fun border.

    • Write a personalized Valentine’s Day message on the back of each card.

    • Include an instruction card if you’re giving them to younger kids who might not know how to play tic-tac-toe yet.

Why Kids (and Parents) Will Love It:

    • Interactive Fun: This isn’t just another card to toss in a pile; it’s a game kids can play over and over.

    • DIY Charm: Handmade Valentines always feel extra special.

    • Candy Bonus: Let’s be honest, the candy is half the fun!

    • Budget-Friendly: With just a few materials, you can make dozens of Valentines without breaking the bank.
