First Trip Around The Sun Party

A First Trip Around The Sun Party

My youngest just turned one, y’all! I have been wanting to do a space themed party for awhile so I took this opportunity to do a First Trip Around The Sun party for my little man.

In this post you’ll be able to see how I brought the party together in these areas:

*Check out my photo gallery for the full party album!*

First Trip Around The Sun Party Backdrop

When I originally planned this party, it was going to be at my house. When my family decided to celebrate family Easter on the same day, I had to change my plan for my backdrop. (Please don’t mind the Easter items that may be in the pictures, haha)

First Trip Around The Sun Party backdrop

I ended up making a backdrop with a black background, 2 boxes of an outer space balloon kit on Amazon, and made 3 wooden geometric arches which were covered with contact paper (I got the white from Walmart, but the yellow and stars came from Amazon.)

It would have been nice to able to get instructions for how I made the arches, but I had to do them within 2 days so I was more focused on just getting them done.

I know my yellow half circle looks a little out of place, but in my defense, I had yellow/orange balloon planets that were supposed to go on my arch to tie it all together. Unfortunately, with 7 kids, nieces, and nephews running around, the planets were the first casualties.

Birthday boy with his smash cake

My little one definitely loved his cake!

Space Themed Food

I don’t know about you, but I love making my food match my party theme. One of the things people usually remember most about any party is if they liked the food or not, so to me, tying in the party theme is an easy way to help make it memorable (in a good way).

My stepdad wanted hamburgers and hotdogs for the main meal which is not pictured. (We took party pictures before he grilled them)

Main Food Items

“Meaty-or Meatballs” are super simple, quick, and a great party food! Add a glittery star to a toothpick to each meatball for easy handling. I made the stars on my cricut machine, but you can cut them out by hand, use a star punch, or even find similar options on Etsy that others make and ship for you!

Meaty-or meatballs

Side Items

“Space Chips” go perfectly with meatballs. I chose tortilla chips since I wanted to make homemade dips, but you can easily use Funyuns as “Saturn’s Rings”, Cheese Balls as “Asteroids” or “Meteors”, or you can be like me and choose any chips that match your menu and make them “Space Chips” (I like that it sounds like “space ships”, haha).

Space chips

Speaking of dips… I had 3! “Sun Flare Salsa” which is a store bought salsa that we like, “Blast Off Bean Dip”, and “Galaxy Guacamole”. You could easily add a “Celestial Cheese Dip” to the mix as well!

Space Dips- Sun flare salsa, Blast off bean dip, & Galaxy guacamole

One of my favorite things about the party was this “Fruity Planet”. I wish I would have had more time to work on it though. I think it would look better if the pineapples and strawberries were more even in height and better fitting.

It could have been more amazing if I would have added more berry skewers to give the rings a more definite path. It still turned out pretty awesome and it ended up being a perfect side for our party!

Fruity Planet

Space Themed Drink

For the drink, I made a Lunar Lemonade (most people call it Galaxy Lemonade). I really love how the colors change and I added edible glitter to my ice stars to give it more of a galactic feel. This lemonade drink is definitely a big hit at parties!

Lunar Lemonade/Galaxy lemonade

Cakes & Treats

What’s a kid’s party without cake & treats?! For this First Trip Around The Sun party, we had a smash cake, dairy free cookies and cupcakes, “Constellation In A Cup”, and Moon Pies.

How cute is this smash cake?! Baking In Wonderland made the cake and cookies for this party and the kids really loved them all!

First trip around the sun cake and cookies

Moon Pies are probably one of the easiest Space Party foods to incorporate in a space party. Half of my family is dairy free so we had Oreos as a dairy free alternative. (Peep my rocket water bottles in the background! This free printable is in my printable library!)

These wooden boxes come from the Dollar Tree. I simply painted them to match the party colors.

If you want a fun art project for your space party, these “Constellation In A Cup” treats are an easy option that the kids love (cause what kid doesn’t love playing with their food?!).

As a bonus, it is also a simple way to teach kids about stars and constellations so they can learn something while they play.

Constellation in a cup

Kid’s Table & Party Favors

The kid’s table had a spacy plastic tablecloth (same one was used for the food table), black and blue plates, and the party favors that I made!

Kid's table

The treat bags were made with plain black treat bags. I made a cute design with silver vinyl on my Cricut machine to put on them and then printed one of my thank you tags to attach to them.

Inside I added star glasses that I got from Hobby Lobby, “Astronaut Food” applesauce, and a chalk “rocket”.

I have the chalk printable for free in my printable library! Simply print on cardstock, cut out, and stick a chalk on it with sticky tack! -EASY!

First trip around the sun party favors

My final party favor was some homemade galaxy play dough. You can find the full details in this post!

Deep Space Dough/ Home made galaxy play dough

The last thing I had for this party is this awesome photo prop! The kids all had a lot of fun taking pictures with it.

I made a sturdy stand with PVC pipes. It was nice that it was easy to travel with, quick to put together and take apart, and safe enough for kids to play around.

How To Create A Birthday Party Scavenger Hunt

How To Create A Birthday Party Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt can be a fun and exciting way to add some adventure to a child’s birthday party. Kids love exploring and discovering new things, so a scavenger hunt is a great way to engage them in a game that is both challenging and entertaining.

In this blog post, we’ll explore how to create a birthday party scavenger hunt for kids that will keep them engaged and excited throughout the party.

This post may contain affiliate links. Feel free to read my full disclosure if you want to learn more!

Step 1: Choose a Theme

The first step in creating a birthday party scavenger hunt is to choose a theme.

The theme could be anything from pirates to superheroes to unicorns.

Whatever theme you choose, make sure it is something that the birthday child and their friends will be excited about.

Step 2: Plan the Clues

Once you have decided on the theme, you can start creating the clues.

The clues should be age-appropriate and easy for little kids to understand. You can create clues that are written or visual, depending on the age of the children. For younger kids, you may want to use pictures or symbols instead of words.

For example, if your scavenger hunt theme is pirates, the first clue could be “X marks the spot where the treasure is buried.” The clue could lead the kids to a sandbox or a designated area where the next clue is hidden. The next clue could be “Look for a skull and crossbones flag.” The kids would then search for a flag with a skull and crossbones on it, and the clue could be hidden underneath.

Here is a free printable scavenger hunt I made for my son’s 1st Trip Around The Sun birthday party.

Step 3: Hide the Clues

Once you have planned the clues, it’s time to hide them.

Make sure the clues are hidden in places that are easy for kids to find but not too obvious.

You don’t want the game to be too easy, but you also don’t want the kids to get frustrated.

Step 4: Provide Prizes

Kids love prizes, so make sure you have a few small prizes for the kids who complete the scavenger hunt. The prizes could be anything from candy to stickers to small toys.

Step 5: Set the Rules

Before the scavenger hunt begins, make sure you explain the rules to the kids.

Let them know how many clues there are and how long they have to complete the game.

You may also want to have an adult accompany each group of kids to ensure that they stay safe and on track.

Step 6: Play the Game

Once everything is set up, it’s time to play the game!

Divide the kids into teams and give each team a clue to start with. Make sure the teams are evenly matched and have an equal chance of finding all the clues.

The team that finds all the clues first wins!

Other Scavenger Hunt Options

Alternatively, you can buy a scavenger hunt game that is ready to go!

Amazon has a few cool options, but this one is my favorite! The best part about this game is that the cards are easily reusable and you can pull it out all year long!

Creating a birthday party scavenger hunt for kids is a great way to add some excitement and adventure to a birthday party.

With a little planning and preparation, you can create a game that the kids will remember for years to come. So why not give it a try at your next birthday party!

12 Inexpensive Ways To Entertain Kids At A Party

When planning a party with kids, it’s a good idea to have something to entertain them. They are more likely to have fun, it can help keep them out of trouble, and the adults can better enjoy the company of the other guests. Below is a list of 12 inexpensive ways that you can entertain kids when you’re hosting a party.

12 Inexpensive ways to entertain kids at a party

This post may contain affiliate links. Feel free to read my full disclosure if you want to learn more!

Chalk

How much more simple can it get than chalk?! If you’ve got a sidewalk, slab of concrete, chalkboards, or even a simple wooden fence, you can let the kids imaginations go crazy without having to worry about a giant mess to clean (Thank you rain!).

One of the best parts is that you can buy chalk for next to nothing!

If you like to DIY and really want to save money, you can easily make your own chalk with egg shells!

Amazon has some decent priced boxes of chalk in bulk if you want a lot of chalk for your party.

Crayons

Another super simple way to inexpensively entertain kids at a party is with crayons. Whether you have a large piece of butcher paper taped to the table or print party themed activity sheets, pretty much all kids love to be creative with crayons!

This brings us to our next idea…

These packs of crayons would be so easy to use as party favors!

Printables

There are so many different kind of printables out there that will easily keep kids entertained. From BINGO, to coloring pages, to crafts. Perusing Pinterest might land you with some free options, but if you can’t find something specific on there, check out Etsy! There are so many amazing printable shops that sell printable kids games, pages, and crafts at cheap prices!

This BINGO game is a free option provided by Crazy Little Projects.

Bubbles

What kid doesn’t love bubbles?! You can give each kid individual bubble wands as party favors or set up a bubble station where they can refill their containers.

To simplify it even more (or if you have a lot of tots running around that’ll just dump the bubbles instead of blowing them) then opt for a bubble machine instead. These might be a little more expensive, but if you have one already laying around then it’ll definitely be a cheap option for entertaining the kids!

Here is an awesome bubble solution that makes 5 gallons of bubbles which would provide hours of fun for a great price!

These mini star wands would be easy to incorporate into a kids party!

Bean Bag/Ball Toss

If you have a cardboard box and something to cut out holes with, you can make a fun bean bag/ball toss game to match your party theme! You can paint a character on it or just turn it into a simple bullseye target.

Really, you can use anything you have laying around that kids can throw bags or balls into/ through. Cans, cups, baskets… Get creative and have fun!

inexpensive ball/bean bag toss for kids parties

If you don’t want to make your own game, here is a bean bag/ring toss kit that is ready to use!

Balloons

I can’t tell you how many hours of fun balloons have provided for my kids. They’ve played “Keepy Uppy”, popped them with their butts, tossed them in baskets and boxes, and even decorated them with stickers and markers.

Balloons are definitely an inexpensive way to entertain kids and the best part is that you can easily double them for party decor!

Needing balloons? I’ve found an awesome bulk bundle of those for you too! I’ve used these for my parties in the past and all the kids had a lot of fun with them!

Obstacle Course

Obstacle courses are also easy to make with items you have around the house!

Tape can be put on the floor in different patterns for kids to walk on, jump over, etc. Boxes can be used as tunnels. Wood can be made into balance beams. String can be taped to walls for kids to climb through.

Just see what is available in your home and you’ll be able to entertain kids at your party practically for free!

inexpensive obstacle course for kids parties

Pretty Real shows a perfect example of how you can use many different objects to make an obstacle course.

If you need a little help getting started, here is a game kit that you can use for your obstacle course. I think the medals would be an awesome addition to help motivate the kids!

Tic-Tac-Toe

A childhood favorite: Tic-tac-toe! You can take a piece of wood and paint some stones to make a quick, but fun tic-tac-toe game. If you want something easier, paint some beans and make a tic-tac-toe board on a square of cardboard. You could also use cereal, noodles, or stones. Whatever you have around the house can work!

This is an easy game to personalize and send home with your guests as party favors!

inexpensive tic tac toe ideas for entertaining kids at a party

Bowling

This is another game that is easy to reuse items around the house! Tin cans, water/soda bottles, plastic cups.. Anything you can stand up and then knock down with balls.

Here’s an example from Trish Sutton!

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are easy to do when you have a themed party! You can make a fun printable page with pictures for each of the kids and send them around the party site to find those party themed items!

Canva is my go-to for making simple pages like this. Just find graphics that match your theme that the kids can find (or upload your pics if you took special pics for the hunt) and then put them on your paper wherever you’d like them. The kids can circle or mark through the items as they find them.

If you have older kids, make it more challenging by having them use a phone or camera to take a picture of each item they find.

First person to find them all wins!

Craftaholics Anonymus has a fun photo scavenger hunt!

Sand Fun

If you have access to a sand box (or can make one), these are easy kid entertainment centers. Trucks, dinosaurs, blocks, animals… so many items can be played with in a sandbox! Bonus points if you can match it to your party theme!

Sugar Spice & Glitter made a blog post about different sand options and many can be used for themed parties!

Water Fun

Water table, water buckets, water guns, water balloons, sponges… If your guests are fine with kids getting wet then you can incorporate many different kinds of water play into your Summer parties to keep kids busy (and work all of the sugar out of their bodies!)

Here is a fun blog by Mama Cheaps that shows many options that can be used for your birthday parties!

Let me know if I’ve inspired you in some way! I’d love to hear what cheap ideas you’ve used to entertain kids at your own parties!

How To Host An Awesome Party On A Budget

Are you wanting to host a party for a special occasion, but you’re maybe feeling a bit lost because you’re needing to stick to a budget? Let me help you find simple ways to cut the costs associated with hosting parties and give you some tips and tricks for making your party fun so you and your guests can make some awesome memories no matter what your budget is!

How to host an awesome party on a budget

Timing

When you’re planning your party, the time of day can make a big difference in how much money you spend.

Try to plan the party around the most comfortable times of the day according to the season. I love throwing outdoor parties because I am able able to tie in elements of nature with my decor, and I am able to entertain more people comfortably. If the weather is hot, I plan an evening party and plug in a few fans around the party area. If the weather is cold, then I do it during hours of sunshine.

When considering timing, don’t forget to take rain in to consideration for any outdoor party and have a Plan B if you’re planning an event in a rainy season.

The time of day also can make a difference in how much you spend on food.

You will spend more on food if you plan a party during lunch or dinner times. If you have a party in between meal times you are able to serve simple snacks and appetizers (bonus points if they go with your party theme!) and it can easily help keep costs down.

Which brings us to our next topic…

Food

It is so easy to go over budget when buying party food. I highly recommend finding party food items that are cheap or on sale.

I have so much fun matching my menu to my party theme! When I’m planning my parties, I like to challenge myself to find cheap food items that I can prepare or label in a way that goes with whatever theme I’m doing. I can turn fruit into a turkey for Thanksgiving or have simple “Meaty-or” meatballs for a space party. In the picture below I mostly used labels to tie in my Splash Pad party theme.

Food table

The week of the party, check out your local grocery ads. See what is on sale and check out available coupons.

Then I would highly recommend jumping on Pinterest to see if there are party foods or food displays you can make with those sale items.

If you’ve got a deep freezer and pantry space (and you’re planning your party with plenty of time to spare) you can keep an eye on sales each week and buy your food items over time so you aren’t limited to only one week’s sale items.

Discounted Party Supplies

When looking for paper goods, decorations, or other party supplies, make sure you check for sales and discounts!

You can get things like colored paper plates and plasticware from the Dollar Tree, but local grocery stores often have sales on paper goods as well.

If you know you will be hosting parties in advance, it is a good idea to check for Seasonal items when they go on sale. This is usually one of the easiest ways to cut party costs. There have been times I have been able to stock up on things like paper plates and cups for under $.50 a pack and get decorations for up to 90% off just because I bought them after the season was over.

My favorite items to look for are the ones I am able to use for more than one type of party. Like plain red plates can go on sale after Christmas, but they are also able to be used for Valentine’s Day or even a kid’s party that has red as a main color.

Recruit Help

It can be hard to ask for help, but I’ve learned over the years that it’s ok to not have it all together all the time and the people we love usually want to help in some way, but they don’t know what we would need help with.

If you’ve got friends or family that want to help (and you know you can rely on them to follow through) then definitely recruit them! Hosting a party on a budget gets a lot easier when someone else brings food, drinks, or party items.

For example, my mom and sisters frequently offer to help with party food for my kid’s birthdays. In doing this, it relieves some of my stress and I’m able to focus more on decorations, entertainment, seating, etc.

Evites

Another tip to host an awesome party while on a budget is to send out an evite instead of a paper invitation.

It is super simple these days to make an invitation on the computer using something like Microsoft Word or, my personal favorite, Canva.

On Canva you can easily use an invitation template that they already have, change the colors, fonts, or graphics, and then download the final product.

Budget party invitations

After you download the invitation, simply send it out to your guests in an email, text, messenger, or however you keep in touch with them!

If you’re super crafty and have items on hand, you also have the option of making an invitation, taking a picture of it, and then sending that out to everyone as well.

If you really don’t have time to make your own invitations, there are many cheaper options on Etsy that are quick and easy to edit and download as well! (I have some kids party theme invitations available in my shop!)

Reuse Your Home Decor And Sprinkle In Some Nature

Within the last week or so of my party, I usually go around my house (and dig through my garage) to see what I can find. I look for anything that can match with my party theme or can be used for staging.

You can use things like mason jars, vases, books, bowls, decorative containers, etc. Pinterest is full of amazing ideas if you’re not sure how you can make things work!

You can also see what kind of greenery and flowers you have outdoors. The day of the party, snip it and place it in a container with water to add to your party decor. It’s a super simple way to add life to your party without needing to spend a dime!

Make Your Own Decorations

The main thing I tend to spend the most money on (besides food) is my decorations.

I love being able to bring a party together throughout the whole space I’m working with. To stay within my budget I do a lot of DIY.

If you’ve got craft paper or even something like burlap hanging around, you can make a garland! A plain colored sheet can be used to start a backdrop setup. You can even turn a cardboard box n to SO MANY different kind of party decorations like a photo prop or backdrop decoration.

You’re only limited by your imagination!

Kid’s Entertainment

If you are also hosting kids at your budget party, you’ll probably want to have something to entertain them so the adults can enjoy the company of other party guests.

It can be as simple as chalk on a sidewalk or wood fence if you’re doing an outdoor get-together or you can set up a themed craft table.

For my budget parties in the past, I have done things like bubble paintings, balloon pit scavenger hunt, and party themed coloring pages.

You can usually find some free printables on Pinterest for the kids to color and most of the time you can even find themed party printables as well. The Dollar Tree now has a decent craft section which can make finding a fun craft for the kids even more budget friendly! You can set up kids entertainment for next to nothing!

Let me know if I’ve helped inspire you today! I love hearing your ideas!

Star decorative stand decoration

How To Make A Cheap Star Decorative Stand

This post may contain affiliate links. Feel free to read my full disclosure if you want to learn more!

I’m here to show you how to make a cheap star decorative stand!

My youngest is about to turn one *insert sad tears* and for his birthday we are doing a “First Trip Around The Sun” themed party!

Now, I really don’t have much for space themed items so I’ve decided to make some!

Today’s project: a silver and gold star decorative stand!

Star Decorative Stand

These are the items I used to make the star stand.

Directions:

1. Draw your stars on the foam block.

I knew what size I wanted my stars, but I’m not a fan of my freehand drawings, so the first thing I did was get on my Cricut machine to make my star stencils. I made 4 stars: 4.5″, 3.75″, 3″, and 2.25″.

You can free hand the stars, use (or make) a stencil, or use whatever star shaped items you have lying around if it’s the size and shape you want.

Draw stars on foam

2. Cut out the stars.

I used my soldering iron to cut out the stars since that’s what I had on hand. A foam cutting tool would be perfect for this though and would make straighter cuts, but you can use whatever is available to you! (If you’ve got the time and patience, you can also cut them out with a knife or blade)

I highly recommend doing this outside if you use a soldering iron since it melts the foam which produces a lot of smoke.

Cut out stars

3. Straighten the edges to your liking.

4. Make a rectangle for the base of the star decorative stand. I did free hand this part, and it ended up being about 2″x 5.5″.

cut out base

5. Cut the dow rod to the length you’d like and paint them. I cut 3 different sizes: 2″, 3″, and 4.5″. You may need different lengths, depending on the size of your stars and where/how you want them positioned. Make sure you have at least 1″ extra for the part that goes in the base and the bottom of the star (about .5″ each)

paint rods for star decorative stand

6. Paint the stars with Mod Podge and then cover with the metal flakes.

mod podge the stars
add metal flakes

7. Use a soft brush to get the excess flakes off of the star so only the part that’s glued down will be left.

use soft brush to remove excess flakes

8. Continue adding Mod Podge and flakes on all the sides and front of each star until they are covered to your liking.

cover the sides

9. Paint the base.

paint star decorative stand black

10. Insert the dow rods into the base of the stars. I used the rounded end of a paintbrush to start the holes so it wouldn’t mess up the foam by pushing a flat end of wood into it.

poke hole in base of stars
Add dow rods to stars

11. Put the stars into the base. I used the end of the paintbrush for this as well.

add stars to the base of the decorative stand

12. You can use hot glue to secure the stars to the rods, the rods to the base, and to glue stars directly onto the base of the star decorative stand if you want.

hot glue onto stand

All done!!! Isn’t this a super easy and fun project?!

I can’t wait til I can get pictures of this with the rest of the party decor! Here’s a quick pic with my awesome moon I made to go with the party theme!

Awesome Splash Pad Party Ideas For A Summer Birthday

My little niece turned one in July. It was hot. So we had a Splash Pad birthday party for her!

There weren’t any covered areas available for us to use so we set up a couple tents and brought out some tables and chairs and made our own little party area.

*Check out the full photo gallery for more inspiration!*

The Cake Table

For the backdrop, I went with a simple fringe in 3 colors, white, light blue, and dark blue. Then I made a popsicle garland to hang at the top.

I had originally planned on having a “Happy Birthday” banner here as well, but the wind was blowing too much and the fringe was not cooperating. I ended up putting the banner on the shade tent instead. The popsicle garland was perfect though!

Since I had more pool noodles, I made a cake stand with them as well. It was perfect for holding the smash cake and cake pops.

I got the idea for the garland and cupcake stand from Lady Behind The Curtain

For the party favors, I got some zipper treat bags, beach balls, and chalk from Hobby Lobby.

They gave the kids something to do when they didn’t want to play in the water.

I put a sticker on the front and a Thank You tag was tied to the handle to finish it off.

Party Favors

I also made some oreo treats for party favors!

They are super simple to make! I just grabbed some white, pink, and blue melting chocolate, dipped the oreos in one color, and then made a cute striped design with the other two colors on half of the cookie.

Easy peasy!

They were put in cellophane bags and topped with one of my editable treat bag toppers.

Party favors

My other printables I used to decorate this table are water bottle labels, party sign, picture frame, and a bunting banner.

Splash Pad Party Food

My sister decided she wanted to have hamburgers and hotdogs as her main food items, so my brother-in-law brought his grill and got to work!

Food table

Along with all the necessary hamburger and hotdog toppings, we had “Pool Float” chips, “Pool Noodle” pretzels, “Melon-sicle” watermelon, “Beach Ball” fruit, and “Ocean Water” lemonade.

The food labels and straw flags are also available in my shop!

35 Colorful Art Party Treat Ideas For An Awesome Birthday

Planning an Art Party? Here is a list of 35 amazing Art Party treats, cookies, candies, and cake ideas that would be perfect for any Art, Paint, or Rainbow Party!

Art Party Treats

When I was planning my daughter’s Art Party, I was on a budget. Of course, Pinterest was my go-to for inspiration (the next picture down on this page).

I did not want to buy 6 different colored chocolates to match her treats, so I only bought white and made them a little differently.

Art party treats

Using white almond bark, I dipped my rice crispy treats until they were fully covered. Then, I used gel food coloring with some of the almond bark to make my paint colors on top. I only used about a tablespoon or two of each of the colored chocolates and applied it with a small spoon.

It was a little difficult to make the paint oval shaped, but they still turned out pretty awesome!

Check out my page explaining how I threw her Art party while on a budget! (I also have the treat bag toppers available in my shop!)

How To Make A Rainbow Balloon Backdrop

This post may contain affiliate links. See disclosure page for details.

When I was planning my daughter’s 4th birthday party (Art Party themed), I knew I wanted to make a statement with a backdrop.

Rainbow Balloon Garland Backdrop

I wasn’t sure what kind of backdrop at first, but I knew I wanted balloons and rainbows! Starting with that in mind I searched Pinterest until I decided on making a fringe backdrop with a balloon garland.

Now, I had never made a balloon garland before, so I didn’t really know how many balloons I would need or how many of each size.

I ended up getting a basic rainbow balloon kit off of Amazon. It was a good price for number of balloons I would get. It was also perfect since it came with all the colors of the rainbow and 3 different sizes of balloons!

Since I was making a rainbow balloon garland, I wanted the rest of the backdrop to be plain, but not TOO plain.

The White Fringe Backdrop

I made a white fringe backdrop with shimmery metallic strands mixed in to give it a little extra pop. You can easily leave out the shimmery strands, but my 3-year-old was all about glitter, so it worked perfectly for us!

White fringe backdrop

The fringe was made with 6 plain white rectangle plastic tablecloths that I got from the Dollar Tree and 1 holographic door curtain from Hobby Lobby. You can also get the tablecloths and door curtain from Amazon if you don’t want to go to the store. (If you want a large balloon garland like what mine ended up being, I would recommend doubling this)

Here is a great tutorial by The House Of Hood Blog on how to make a fringe backdrop.

The way I did mine was 5-7 strips of white, and then 3-4 strands of the tinsel tied together. I did 2 strings of fringe and used 6 tablecloths all together. One strand was on the top half of my backdrop stand, and one on the bottom.

When I put the strips on, I put them at varying lengths to give it a more random look. It took about 4 hours to get done (while dealing with 3 little ones).

White fringe backdrop

I love how it turned out!

The Rainbow Balloon Garland

After I attached them to my backdrop stand (You can get one here if you need one!) I got to work on my rainbow balloon garland.

A couple of my little ones were having a rough day so I completely forgot to get pictures of building my garland. I’ll do a full tutorial on my next garland with pictures (and hopefully video!)

First, I blew up all of my balloons with my balloon pump (so easy and quick!!!)

Me and my balloons

Then, starting with my 12″ balloons, I combined each color together two at a time. Next, I stuck them all together with a fishing line.

After that, I put the rainbow balloon garland of 12″ balloons on the backdrop stand where I liked it, and secured it with more fishing line.

The 18″ balloons came next. I attached each to a piece of fishing line and stuck them on the garland where I judged them to look best. I did try to have more visual weight at the bottom, but since I was concentrating on keeping the colors each in their own color block, I was limited on how to make that happen.

Finally, I put the 5″ balloons in clusters of 4. Then, combined 2 clusters with a bit of string, and placed them in any holes that I saw in the design.

I finalized the whole look with one of my printable banners. I made these specifically for my daughter’s Art Party (You can read more about it here)

Rainbow Balloon Garland Backdrop

All in all, I think I did pretty good for it being my first time!
